When I first started my Thesis idea was trying to create a trailer film for on an adaptation of a Korean Tale "Jeon Woo Chi" into cyberpunk. However, I felt the needs to emphasis reason of Cyberpunk in South Korea.
Therefore, I developed my idea into creating a cyberpunk teaser trailer that would put emphasis on the problems that cyberpunk implies of the technological concentric world, and the relationship to current South Korea's technology dependent society. Trying to create an allegory for the viewers to understand the problems that we might face in the future.
The thesis would use stock footage of South Korea that we can find online to be recreated it the help of visual effects to tell the narrative and the problems of technology in South Korea.

“Use of Digital Media to create a visual allegory of South Korea’s technology-centric-society for younger generations”

The reason I wanted to concentrate on South Korea was because, South Korea have become one of the most technological and innovative countries in the world from one of the world's poorest countries in 60 years.

South Korea created educational methods for younger generations to improve the development of technology inside the country, such as KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). KASIT enrolled students are free from tuition and only paid for the penalties for the average grade that they would gain per semester. Also, the school is ranked top 20 in the world.
Children in South Korea have started to take coding classes for their extra learning outside of schools. It did not only increase in students but the number of extra learning classes have jumped 3 times from 2016 to 2019.
The idea of improving the technology also got developed into recruitment for Technology specialists to the mandatory military system.
South Korea's younger generation the Generation Z are exposed to technology when they are born. In my research there are 99.9 % of teenagers are using the internet and the 99.3% were wireless.
Above the age of 3 use smartphone is 87.8% and teenage were 97.2% in 2017.
Average of 5 Hours per day of usage.



South Korea also, has a system call Pc Bang. Which is an internet cafe that people use to play games and other computer needed works. However, the cost to use it is around 1 dollar per hour and gets discounted if done in multiple hour subscriptions. The game companies would also, concentrate on giving extra perks for those who play their games in PC Bang and some games are free to play in PC Bang without having to buy the game by yourself.

The idea of peer pressure and quality of life are things that cause suicides. South Korea have been ranked top 1 in suicide in the OECD countries and 3 times more than the average OECD. There are 1 suicide per 40 minutes. And I believe the spike from 2001 and the spike of technology in the country was the reason to the increase in suicides.
My Thesis
Create a cyberpunk teaser sizzle reel about 30 seconds, working title “Hero (영웅)”. Using stock footage plates as a basis to integrate visual effects elements to visually create a narrative. As an allegory for the younger generations to understand the problems of the technological dependent future.
